How Much Does an Indian Wedding Photographer Cost? Real 2026 Pricing
April 3, 2026
How much does an Indian wedding photographer cost in 2026? We break down real pricing for South Asian wedding photography and videography by city, coverage hours, and what to watch out for.
Photography is the one vendor you cannot redo. The flowers wilt, the food gets eaten, the music fades — but your photos and films are what you'll have for the rest of your life. For South Asian couples, that means a photographer who isn't just technically skilled, but who understands the chaos and beauty of a multi-day Indian wedding: the pre-dawn baraat, the fire of the havan, the emotion of the vidaai.
So what does that actually cost?
We've collected real quotes from South Asian wedding photographers and videographers across Dallas, Houston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Austin, and the New York/New Jersey area. Here's what the market looks like in 2026.
Why Indian wedding photography costs more than a typical wedding
Before we get to numbers, it's worth understanding why South Asian wedding photography is priced differently than a standard American wedding package.
Most wedding photographers price their packages around a single 8-10 hour event. Indian weddings don't work that way. A typical South Asian wedding involves 3-4 separate events across 2-3 days: a mehndi or viddhi, a sangeet, a ceremony, and a reception. Each event has its own rituals, outfits, lighting conditions, and emotional peaks. A photographer covering all four events may be on-site for 30+ total hours across a weekend.
On top of that, South Asian ceremonies are dense with once-in-a-lifetime moments happening simultaneously — the jai mala while guests cheer, the saat phere while family cries, the doli while everyone falls apart. That requires multiple shooters working in sync, not a solo photographer. Most Indian wedding packages include a second shooter as a baseline, not an add-on.
All of this means you're comparing apples to oranges when you look at a quote for an Indian wedding versus a standard package listing.
What's typically included in a South Asian wedding photography package
A complete Indian wedding photography package generally covers:
Coverage: All major events — usually mehndi/viddhi, sangeet, ceremony, and reception. Some photographers price per-day or per-event; others offer flat weekend packages.
Shooters: Most quality packages include a lead photographer plus one or two second shooters for larger events.
Edited images: Delivery timelines vary widely — anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months. Always confirm this in writing. Edited image counts for a full Indian wedding weekend typically range from 1,500 to 4,000 photos.
Online gallery: Most photographers deliver via a private online gallery (Pixieset, Shootproof, etc.) with a download link.
Albums: Print albums are almost always priced separately and are a significant upsell. A quality flush-mount album can add $1,500 to $4,000 to your total.
Videography: Most photographers offer photo + video bundles at a discount. Separate videography packages are also common. Indian wedding videography typically includes a highlight film (5-10 minutes), a ceremony edit, and sometimes a same-day edit (SDE) shown at the reception.

How to read a photography quote
When a photographer sends you a proposal, here's what to look for beyond the total price.
Per-event vs. full-weekend pricing. Some photographers quote per event and some quote for the full weekend. A "$2,500 per event" quote for 4 events is $10,000 — that's not cheap, but it might look like a deal if you're only comparing headline numbers.
Travel fees. If your ceremony and reception are at different venues (common for Indian weddings), or if you're flying in a photographer from another city, travel and accommodation fees can add $500–$2,500 to your total.
Second shooter clarity. Is the second shooter a seasoned associate or a photography student? For Indian weddings, your second shooter needs to know where to be during a baraat without being told.
Turnaround time. Six months for your wedding photos is common but frustrating. Ask if they offer expedited delivery and what it costs.
Copyright and printing rights. You should receive full personal printing rights. Some photographers restrict where you can print — watch for this clause.
Retouching vs. culling. "Editing" means different things to different photographers. Ask specifically: will images be color-corrected? Will skin tones be adjusted? Will blemishes be retouched? Some packages include basic corrections only; advanced retouching is extra.
Red flags to watch for
No South Asian wedding portfolio. Shooting a Hindu ceremony requires knowing the sequence of rituals. A photographer who has never shot a havan or a saat phere will miss moments that can't be recreated. Always ask to see a full gallery from a past Indian wedding, not just a highlight reel.
Vague contracts. Your contract should specify: number of shooters, total hours, events covered, delivery timeline, image count, and what happens if the photographer gets sick. If it doesn't, ask for revisions before signing.
Turnaround time over 9 months. Some in-demand photographers book far ahead and deliver slowly. Nine months is the outer limit of reasonable. A year or more is a red flag unless they are very specifically known for slow, highly-retouched editorial work.
Packages priced per hour for multi-day events. Hourly pricing for Indian weddings creates misaligned incentives. You want your photographer focused on your baraat, not watching the clock. Flat event or weekend pricing is cleaner.
Should you book photo and video from the same vendor?
There are real advantages to bundling: the photo and video teams already have a working relationship, they know how to stay out of each other's shots, and there's one contract and one point of contact. Bundles are also typically discounted 10–20% versus booking separately.
The tradeoff is that you're limited to one studio's style for both. If you love one photographer's editorial film-look but prefer another videographer's dramatic cinematic edits, you'll have to choose. For couples with a strong visual vision, booking separately can be worth the premium.
How photography fits into your overall budget
Photography and videography together typically represent 10–15% of a total Indian wedding budget. On a $120,000 wedding, that's $12,000–$18,000 — often the third-largest spend after venue and catering.
It's also one of the categories where couples most commonly say they wish they'd spent more. Unlike catering or décor, there's no way to upgrade your photography after the fact.
